How to (not) be Prime Minister: Unpacking Malaysia's 2022 General Election

It has been a turbulent time for Malaysian politics. After meeting the King today, Pakatan Harapan Leader Anwar Ibrahim said in a recent press conference: "His Highness began expressing his desire to form a strong, formidable government that is more inclusive in terms of race, religion, or region. That would be able to allow the government to focus on resolving the problems of the _rakyat_ and resuscitate the economy."


Although Anwar's reporting does cement hope that Istana Negara might be maneuvering in the best interests of the people, the political reality might not allow this to happen.
